The newsletter is called “Win a Bracelet, a Substack for Poker Dreamers”. These days my emphasis is shifting from the poker grind and just putting in volume to focusing on games I enjoy most. Less grind, more dreaming.
Though I focused the early part of my career on cash games I’ve made deep runs at the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2014 and 2018 (a top 1% finish) and increasingly enjoy and spend time on tournaments. “Win a Bracelet” is also about my love of mix games. For anyone who dreams of winning a WSOP bracelet there’s a hack to dramatically increasing your chances. The open secret is to learn the “weird” games like 2-7 Triple draw or Badugi to supplement no limit holdem. For each individual WSOP event a merely competent mix game player has a vastly greater chance of making a WSOP final table in Razz or Badugi than an expert no limit holdem player has in an equivalent no limit holdem event. It’s just a matter of the huge disparity in the number of entries (500ish players vs many thousands). Maybe it’s not a coincidence that the time I managed to reach a WSOP final table was in the similarly obscure format of Pot Limit Holdem.
